Internet

The internet is an amazing invention. At the touch of a button you can be transported into a virtual world or find out about something you never knew etc. I love looking at past photos or photos that people have taken while they have been holiday. The internet can help us connect with old friends and perhaps keep an eye on those we really don’t like.

Today I have been reading posts from a group which celebrates my home town. Chester-le-Street has been the place I have lived for a long time having moved her as a child in the mid-seventies. I do love the town and I have said before it has it’s faults like all places. It also has good points and that’s why I like living here. It was just sad to read that there had to be people who were arguing over the internet about how the group was run.

I make it my own personal policy that I do not argue over the internet. I talk to people and discuss things. That’s the limit. I am not into slagging matches of any kind. I hate people who troll others such as those who target celebrities and send ridiculous yet serious ‘death threats’ to those people they have a disagreement.

In a previous post I mentioned that the internet can be a dreadful place and it can. When you see the way that some people treat each other it becomes at times criminal.

Relationships

Why are there so many single people looking for love? Looking on the net, reading magazines we see see people with an almost obsessive determination to partner up.

What characteristics do you look for in another person? Rich and tall? Thin and pretty? A good sense of humour?

I was struck when thinking about this topic how many people out there are in there own. They may go on a date but nothing ever comes of it. It’s like a car that never seems to get out of second gear. Leaving us frustrated with a potential significant other and most importantly ourselves.

Is it really that bad being alone? The word alone has negative connotations is does almost imply that you are lonely. Sometimes I do feel I am on my own but I not that I am missing a significant other but when I am feeling low I automatically think that I am the only one feeling this way.

As we get older sometimes the physical side of relationships seem less important and we focus on companionship. I am not saying it disappears all together but the shine of lustful wanting does seem less attractive. We all know that person who would have been desperate to kiss would never want us and that hurts. I have been there too many times.

So what am I settling for? I tried to give a potential relationship a go a few years back and it wasn’t for me. No one could put up with my bad habits and I think I have lived too long on my own so I am rather stuck in my ways. I do have people who for me are wonderful friends they have given me more love than anyone could imagine. I am grateful and thankful for their friendship every day of my life.

I enjoy music, art, gardening and photography. I love seeing pictures of beautiful people. It stirs within me a passion. Now who’s starting to sound like a dating ad?

Youtubers

Most of the stuff that’s written on the Internet is bullshit. Yes that maybe a harsh way to start this blog but it’s true.
I have had the misfortune to be stumbling across some stories about youtubers that have been accused of sexual crimes. Not the greatest thing you want to read about.
There are always the people who will want to give their opinion and as I said most of it is crap. Sexual crime is a very serious matter. Those who are accused have to be guarded in what they say. I know this from experience. I haven’t talked about what happened to me over a decade ago. I couldn’t and didn’t think it was appropriate.
When someone accuses you of a crime it’s a very serious matter, especially if you are a position of authority or someone older who the person may look up to then the matter is treated as being more serious. It’s a fact. This doesn’t seem to be getting across to those on YouTube who have had fingers pointing at them.
Some have been accused of rape of children. Yet have carried on making videos and dismissed the accusations as a bit of fun gone wrong. Unfortunately if the authorities are informed of a crime is it their duty to investigate it and it becomes deadly serious.
I hope that in time the truth will come out so those who have suffered can feel they have received justice.

Astounded

The world of the Internet can be a dreadful place. I stumbled across a posting on a Vine app. A place where people can post six second videos for others to view. This is where a person kisses another persons arm. Nothing out of the ordinary until to realise the context.

The person who was doing the kissing is a young man in America. He is famous in the world of YouTube and this app called Vine. He was meeting a number of his “followers” at a conference especially set up so fans can get to meet these sort of people.

The arm of the girl that he was kissing is scarred from her self-harming. The comments left on this video were “Oh he’s wonderful” “I have never cried so much” and “This is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen”.

Never in my life have I been sickened by the lack of attachment to reality that some people have shown to this video. Some of the comments have left me speechless.

Self-harm and mental illness isn’t a phase or some sort of fashion statement. Using your illness or cutting yourself for what ever reason to get attention from those who consider themselves to be famous is utterly wrong.

I have been told by some on this site that expressing the opinion that I found this disturbing didn’t matter as I obviously hadn’t suffered like this girl had. Little to these people know about me and certainly about life.

Who is to blame? I am certainly looking for someone to give me answers to why so many seemed detached. Life isn’t all about being serious and not being able to enjoy yourself but when it drifts into the world of so-called celebrity worship and you start to allow this to take over yourself and health then there is something definitely wrong.

Youtube

Ninety-nine percent of the content that is uploaded on to YouTube is utter garbage. People trying to make videos or be funny. Some have got “youtube famous” and sold out to companies who use them as advertisers. Two people who I think are amazing are below. First is sixteen year old Bertie Gilbert who is more mature that most thirty year olds. He is a talented film maker. The second is Sheridon Hackland. A youtuber who finds time to make videos which actually have content rather than banal time-wasting challenges or dares.
